"Senate candidate Stanley Challenges
Jesse Ventura to Box"

from SpeakOut Vail - February 14, 2002

Press Release - Rick Stanley, U.S. Senate candidate for the Libertarian Party in Colorado, has challenged Minnesota’s wrestling governor to a boxing match to defend Colorado’s honor.

"I have challenged Governor Jesse Ventura to a three round boxing match. Proceeds for this proposed event would be split evenly for Governor Ventura's upcoming Nov. 2002 Minnesota governor's campaign and Rick Stanley's US senate campaign for Colorado.

Stanley proposed a bet with Ventura that should Stanley win, Ventura would attempt a shot at the Libertarian Party 2004 Presidential candidacy. Should Ventura win, Stanley has volunteered to give $5,000.00 to Ventura's choice of charity. Details, such as date, time and place will be worked out, should Governor Ventura accept the challenge.

“Governor Ventura has billed himself the ‘nation's toughest governor’, i.e. ‘our governor can beat up your governor.’ Since Governor Owens refuses to stand up to the challenge made by Governor Ventura's camp with that statement, I believe that Colorado must stand up with an acceptable candidate. Since the U.S. Senate vote is on a higher line on the ballot, a U.S. Senate candidate should be an acceptable combatant to defend Colorado's honor.

“I do want to point out that one of the Libertarian governor candidates, Ralph Shnelvar, did volunteer to challenge Governor Ventura to a chess match.
My challenge was faxed to the governor of Minnesota on February 4, 2002. A copy of this media release will be e-mailed to Governor Ventura today, to remind the Governor that his self-proclaimed title of "Toughest Governor" has been challenged by a U.S. Senate candidate and an enthusiastic response should be made promptly. So far, no response.

“I respect Governor Ventura immensely,” said Stanley. He has shown third parties that the two–party death grip that the Republicans and Democrats have upon American politics can and will be broken, if the citizens will stand up to big government.

“So Governor Ventura: I will pay your airfare, put you up in the Brown Palace, which is a fine Colorado hotel, pay for a spectacular dinner which would provide a wonderful platform for your views and would coincidently provide my campaign with a needed fund raiser. What do you say?”
